Eating In // Spiced Hot Cocoa
When the weather is unbearably cold, at least you know you have hot cocoa. After all, this is the perfect season for it. To truly enjoy hot cocoa, it needs to be made from scratch with good ingredients. This recipe is particularly special because of the added spice. A mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper give it enough heat to keep you warm throughout winter. A dollop of whipped cream makes this drink to good to turn down.
The Goods:
Serves 2
- 2 cups whole milk (organic is preferred)
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup sugar ( you can always add more if it isn't sweet enough for your taste buds)
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
- pinch cayenne
For the whipped cream:
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Directions:
- Combine the milk, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla, and spices into a medium saucepan. Warm to a simmer.
- While the hot cocoa is warming, pour the cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla into the bowl of an electric mixer and whip on high speed until stiff peaks are achieved.
- Once the cocoa is hot, pour into mug of choice and top with the whipped cream. Enjoy!
