DIY // Painted Neon Pots

Something about painting flower pots brings me back to being in the 5th grade and my mom letting me "express my creativity" all over her terra cotta pots. While the feeling is the same, I would say the result is much different, in this case. The process is simple, get some neon paint and go to town! The pots will turn out much better if you allow the white paint to complete dry and don't muck it up like I did. So, get out there! Make something out of those flower pots you have lying around. -MF

 Supplies:

  • 2 smallish terra cotta pots
  • white acrylic paint
  • 2 bottles of yellow neon acrylic paint (Michaels)
  • 2 bottles of pink neon acrylic paint (Michaels)
  • 1 paintbrush
  • 3 bowls for the different paint colors

Step one: Split up the paint in their respective bowls. You may also want a bowl or cup of water and some paper towels. If you are half as messy as I am, you will need both.

Step two: Paint the pots white. I did two coats. As I mentioned before, let it completely dry before moving forward with step 3.

Step three: Dippity dip! Take one pot and dip it straight in the pink paint. I dipped it in several times and then slung it out.

Step 4: Take the other pot and dip in the yellow. I sort of held the pot sideways to get the half dip effect. I like this one the best.

Step 5: I held them until they dried a bit which really tested my patience, primarily because it was dang hot outside. Once they aren't dripping anymore, set them down on a paper towel or parchment paper to dry. Annnnddd you're done! Now go find a plant to put in it.
